Main Features

KeepTruckin has emerged as one of the most affordable yet functional ELD manufacturers. The company has been working to revolutionize the trucking industry with its amazing technology. Their ELD hardware is proof of that. Here are some prominent features that set it apart from other units:

Accurate GPS Tracking

With KeepTruckin ELD, you can say goodbye to late shipment and deliveries. The unique 360-degree map of this device allows you to monitor your vehicle efficiently. Along with accurate location, it keeps you posted with the overall travel history of the truck. From the warehouse to the required destination, you can follow your order at every step of its journey.

One of the major problems that motor carriers face is the lack of communication with the driver. This creates a lot of confusion among clients, especially new ones. To solve this problem once and for all, KeepTruckin ELD offers the feature of messaging. This allows the driver to remain in contact with the back office in a secure but effective way.

In-cab Hotspot

With KeepTruckin ELD, you do not need to spend extra bucks on the internet connection because it comes with an exclusive built-in WiFi hotspot connection. It enables the driver to stay in contact with the consumer. It also helps customers and business owners to efficiently track the vehicle any time they want. To utilize this feature, all you need is a Wi-Fi-compatible mobile set, and you will be good to go.

Smart Dashcam

This ELD offers an exclusive feature of smart dashcam technology. While it may seem a bit intrusive for some drivers, it still proves to be a good addition to their vehicles. This technology is specifically designed to avoid and track any mishaps during driving.

The camera is triggered whenever the driver does any harsh movement, for example, hard brakes and tailgating. The footage is then uploaded and transferred to the safety hub, where they can review and monitor the incident.

In case of an accident, this feature helps businesses to avoid legal actions when they are not at fault. Not only that, but using this technology, you can also improve your drivers’ driving skills effectively.

Users have highly appreciated the KeepTrucking ELD for several reasons. Its sleek design, coupled with its great functionality, has made it one of the highest-rated ELDs on the market. Here are some of the advantages that you can reap by investing in this product:

Comes at a Very Affordable Price

Manufacturers have been using the new laws that mandate ELDs to their own benefit. They are not only coming up with new devices but also selling them at prices higher than their worth.

But KeepTrucking is different from all such manufacturers. It has ensured that the product provides good worth for its price and is affordable and accessible for all.

Simple and Very Easy to Install

The convenience that this product allows during the installation process is one of its best features. It is a very simple process that takes no less than five to ten minutes. You do not need to watch elaborate tutorials or stare at the device in confusion.

A small step-by-step guide can help you install the device quickly, without any trouble.

App Has an Intuitive and User-friendly Interface

ELDs, until very recently, wasn’t mandatory for truck drivers. This means not a lot of drivers used them regularly. Those who had no experience with these devices at all are now finding it hard to get the hang of them.

However, KeepTruckin, with its outstanding ELD device, has made the job easier for them. It has come forth with a highly intuitive and user-friendly interface. Such a UI makes the ELD very easy to use, even for those who haven’t used any ELD before.

Sounds Alert When You Are Approaching Your Hours of Service (HOS) Limit

ELDs perform the job of keeping track of your working hours. But they store this data within them, providing it to you when you look for it. Keeping track of your Hours of Service (HOS) limit yourself can be hard, and having to check your ELD again and again can be annoying.

But the KeepTrucking ELD has found the perfect solution for this problem. It is designed to sound alerts whenever you are approaching the limit. So you do not need to check the logs over and over; just look out for the alerts from the device.

Customer Support Service is Very Responsive

Regardless of how well a product is designed and how easy it is to use, users always end up needing support for different reasons. Be it trouble using the product or to avail product warranty, KeepTrucking users have found the manufacturer to be very responsive.

They report that all of their queries were answered immediately and provided with the help they asked for without any delay. Excellent customer support is what makes the users’ experience with the product even better.

Even though this product is ideal for use, it may not be entirely perfect since it has a few cons. However, these are just major setbacks in the design of an otherwise outstanding product. Here are the cons that you need to look out for while considering this ELD.

Requires a Smart Device for Usage

While the ELD itself is sufficient to track your service hours and keep logs, you still need a smart device to access this information. The device will continue to work, but you will have no idea about the hours it has logged without a smart device. You won't have access to any of its features without coupling it with a smart device.

Dispatch Can Only Edit the Logs the Next Day

While using a KeepTrucking ELD, the driver and the dispatch usually need the logs to be edited for the record immediately. However, this isn’t possible with this product. The logs can only be edited the next day, which may create a slight delay in work.

What is the KeepTruckin ELD Best For?

While the basic job of the KeepTrucking ELD is just to log driving hours for truck and fleet drivers, it can do a lot more for you. If you are wondering what this product is good for, let us highlight some of the uses that make it worth the investment.

Efficiently Logging Your Hours of Service (HOS) and Record of Duty Status (RODS) Data

The KeepTrucking ELD is extremely useful for keeping proper logs of your hours of service. It is known to log highly accurate records, helping in efficient logging of your working hours, as well as Record of Duty Status data. Since the device is much less likely to make errors than humans, the logs are considerably more reliable as well.

Enables Back-office Personnel to Monitor the Progress of Different Fleet Vehicles

While you are on the road, being contacted by the office for the progress of your fleet could be distracting. These distractions can also prove to be dangerous on the road. With the KeepTrucking ELDs, the back office personnel can keep a close eye on your progress due to the accurate location tracking feature. And all of this can be done without having to contact or disturb the driver at all.

Making You ELD Mandate Compliant

The Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has made it mandatory for commercial carriers to have an ELD installed in their trucks and fleets.

If you want to progress and succeed in this industry, you must comply with all the rules and regulations imposed by the authorities. With the KeepTrucking ELD, you not only get accurate logs, but you also become automatically compliant with the ELD mandate.

What Do I Need to Know Before Buying a KeepTruckin ELD?

If you have used and dealt with ELDs before, you know what to look for before buying them. But if you haven’t, you may find yourself confused about what to do. To help you out, we have listed some of the aspects you need to keep in mind before investing in a KeepTrucking ELD.

Learning Doesn’t Stop at Using

The use of ELDs has been mandated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and the Department of Transportation (DOT) for a reason. The aim is not just to learn how to use and make the best out of these devices. Instead, it is better to familiarize yourselves with them and understand why their use is no less than a necessity in the trucking industry. One must know the level of security and safety that the use of these products can add for drivers.

BYOD Models

KeepTrucking ELDs are all Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) models. This means that you need a smart device to use your ELD effectively. Before you invest in these products, you need to ensure that the smartphone or tablet you plan to use with the ELD is compatible with the system.

Service Provider

Investing in good ELD is not enough. In order to have well-maintained records that pose no challenges, it is equally important to select a good service provider. Ideally, the service provided that you choose should be able to optimize your operations and provide a better cellular network than others.

Comparison Overview

KeepTruckin was changing the way logs were kept even before the ELD rule was imposed. Their mission is to build modern technology products for the trucking industry. Their ELD is the easiest to use and the most cost-effective way of managing driver logs. Let's see how it compares to some of the popular brands on the market.

KeepTruckin vs Samsara

The Samsara Electronic Logging Device is a relatively new addition to the ELD market. This affordable device is deemed to do it all and is serving several owner-operators and large commercial fleet companies. Here are some similarities and differences between KeepTruckin and Samsara.

Both Samsara and KeepTruckin ELDs reflect the essence of ELD compliance. They allow you to accurately log Hours of Service (HOS) and Record of Duty Status (RODS). They also promise GPS tracking, plug & play connectivity, and so on. Hence, with one simple platform, they ensure that you remain compliant.

Also, they are generally more affordable than many of their expensive counterparts, yet they are quite good in terms of quality.

While KeepTruckin ELDs are surely in more demand, they have a hard time keeping up with the supply. They say so on the order forms. Samsara, on the other hand, is very responsive and quick in delivering their units.

Users have also pointed out that the former boasts a higher quality build while the latter feels a bit flimsy.

KeepTruckin vs BigRoad

BigRoad originated as a stand-alone app for drivers to keep logs on their phones. They followed it up with hardware that allows the app to access engine data. Hers is how it compares to the KeepTruckin ELD.

Being Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) solutions, both connect to your smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth. You can also connect them via a USB cable.

They boast plug-&-play connectivity with very user-friendly apps that make them very easy and comfortable to use.

While KeepTruckin is a full-featured ELD, BigRoad Dash link, ELD has a limited number of features.

One more thing that users have noted is that the latter disables very easily. But with the former, this is hard to happen.

KeepTruckin ELD Troubleshooting

There are likely to be times when you find that your KeepTruckin ELD is not responding the way you would expect it to. Things like not powering up, losing signals, or not charging are not major problems. If that ever happens, do not worry. Running into such minor issues can happen and isn’t a sign that your product isn’t good enough. Here are a few troubleshooting tips if you ever find yourself needing help.

Why My KeepTruckin Module Won’t Charge?

There are two reasons why your KeepTruckin module won't charge. It can be a dead battery or a malfunctioning cable. Try plugging the module into the vehicle with the same cable and then with a new one. If the issue is resolved, the cable is the culprit. If not, try replacing the battery.

KeepTruckin ELD Won’t Power Up

If your KeepTrucking ELD doesn’t power up, try using it in a different vehicle. Make sure to use the same cable to confirm it isn’t the faulty cable. Conversely, try using another ELD on the same vehicle with the same cable, so you can determine if the problem is within the device or cable.

Make sure to check if the battery is full and the port is clean. Reboot your device, and turn off the engine. Plug in the unit again and turn your engine on. The lights must now power up.

My Mobile Device Keeps Disconnecting From the KeepTruckin ELD

If your device keeps getting disconnected, make sure that your firmware is updated to the latest version. Check if the app gets disconnected when it's running in the background. If so, it could be due to the operating system force-stopping the app because of low memory.

Frequent disconnection could also be due to low battery or power-saving mode. Lastly, also make sure that you have no other devices connected to your mobile through Bluetooth.

KeepTruckin ELD Not Recording Drive Time

The first thing you need to make sure in this case is if the app is connected to the device properly. If it is, try logging out from the app and then logging back in after 15 seconds or so.

If that doesn’t work, try unplugging the device from the vehicle with the engine turned off. Plug it back in after waiting for five minutes. Connect the app and take a small test drive to check if it works. If you are using a Y cable, get rid of it and attach the device directly to the port.

How to Use a KeepTruckin App

Since KeepTruckin ELD is a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) ELD, you need to operate it via your smartphone or tablet. You can do so by installing the KeepTruckin App to help you maintain an accurate e-log. Here is how to use a KeepTruckin app:

1. Download and Install the App

The first thing you have to do is to download the app on your smartphone. Whether you have an IOS or Android phone, the app is easily available for free over both platforms. Search the KeepTruckin app and click download. Once the download is finished, the app will automatically install on your phone.

2. Connect Your Device With the ELD

Now turn on the Bluetooth and pair your phone with the device. Open the KeepTruckin app and tap the add vehicle option given on the screen's top right-hand corner. Select the vehicle you want to pair it with. Your phone will connect to the respective ELD, and a green ELD icon will appear on the screen. Simultaneously, the right indicator light will also turn solid green to indicate a successful pairing.

3. Set Your Duty Status

Go to the main logs screen and press the current duty status. Choose the desired status from the available options. Make sure that your location is correct. You can also put in additional notes in the notes section. Tap Save.

4. Making Inspection Reports

Select the day you want to make the report from the main logs screen. Tap the DVIR button on the top right. Now press the add button to create a new report. Put in the correct vehicle number and number of trailers.

If you have any defects to report after inspecting the vehicle, open vehicle defects, and check the defects you want to report. Tap done. Now go to sign and press sign DVIR to sign the report electronically. Tap Save.

5. Recording Hours of Service

Once your vehicle starts moving, the ELD will automatically set your duty status to driving, and a clock will appear on the center of the screen. This clock denotes the driving time you have left for legal driving. It calculates this based on your HOS cycle.

While the vehicle is moving, you cannot access logs or any other area of the app. Once the vehicle has stopped, you can press Driving to change the duty status to any of the other options. Tap Save to finish.

These are the basic functions that your KeepTruckin app promises. For a more detailed and inclusive account of how to use it, check out the video below.
